Work on the redevelopment of Morris Miller Library’s Level 2 has commenced.
Hoarding was put in place prior to Semester 1 to minimise disruption for students and staff. Updated information on what will be done each day will be posted on the hoarding and on this Library News blog.
The redevelopment work is expected to take six months and will deliver:
- 24/7 access to Level 2 plus access to the Learning Hub on Level 3
- Over 50 new quiet study spaces in Reserve/Reference area
- New toilets on Level 3 plus a chilled water fountain to fill up drink bottles
- Improved client service areas
- An expanded display and exhibition space
- A new and expanded eLab 2 with 22 seats
- Airconditioning on Level 2
These improvements are long overdue and will go a long way to rectify issues that have been raised in successive Library surveys http://www.utas.edu.au/library/about/surveys.html
eLab 1 has been relocated. All PCs from eLab 2 have been redistributed so that students do not lose access to PCs during the redevelopment.
We will work with the builders to ensure noise and disruption is kept to a minimum. Unfortunately it was not possible, due to funding issues and then the tender process, for the work to commence during the summer holidays – this of course was our preference. The option of closing the library was never an option.
Recent refurbishments in the Law and Science libraries means that students are welcome to use those learning spaces as well.
Please give us your feedback and comments so we can work together to make this a smooth a process as possible.
Please note that updates will be posted under Comments – see top right hand side of this post. A further posting provides more updates – see Morris Miller Library redevelopment update
