eLearning in mental health opportunity

This no cost elearning program  could be useful for clinical supervisors.  Advocacy Tasmania is a non-government organisation which provides support through the Mental Health tribunal Representaion scheme to people with mental health issues who appear before the Tasmanian mental health tribunal. They have developed an learning program that may benefit those who interact with people who have a mental illness. This program provides information on mental illness and consumer rights, the mental health  tribunal and the recent mental health Act 2013.

The program consists of an introduction section and eight modules which covers:

  • Mental Illness – Myths & Facts
  • Stigma & Discrimination
  • Legalisation & Therapeutic Jurisprudence
  • Consumer & Carer Rights
  • Capacity & Consent
  • The Mental Health Tribunal
  • Mental Health Tribunal Representative Scheme (MHTRS)
  • Representation & the Mental Health Tribunal

Participants can choose to complete only those modules which are of interest and work at their own pace. On completion participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and may be invited become a MHTRS volunteer. For further information about the modules or Advocacy Tasmania, please go to the elearning package website.

This learning opportunity may be useful to clinical supervisors who would like to understand the recent changes to the mental health Act, undertake informal CPD or inform their students about the modules to gain an overview and understanding of  the Mental Health Act 2013.
