Clinical supervision support and information in 2015

Welcome to the new academic year of 2015 and to more blogs (and the archive) about clinical supervision. You can also join the community of practice @PEPCommunity on Twitter where I find and send information that may be useful or be of interest to clinical supervisors of healthcare students. This blog is about to enter its third year and I thank you for your comments and interest in being part of the clinical supervision network that nurtures, supports and guides our healthcare students into being the next generation of healthcare workers.

Without clinical supervisors, preceptors or facilitators the quality and standard of education students receive would impact on the quality and care of our patients. The role of the clinical supervisor is essential for ensuring new graduates are prepared for their role as a graduate healthcare worker and are work ready. It is imperative that clinical supervisors are aware of the nexus of the educational setting and contemporary in their outlook to education and clinical practice.

The aim of this blog is to provide a resource to clinical supervisors  to promote learning and teaching within the workplace or work integrated learning setting and assist with supporting supervisors in their role. The inception of @PEPCommunity was to facilitate the development of a community of practice for clinical supervisors by supporting the provision, exchange and sharing of information about clinical supervision. As the use of social media continues to grow, I encourage the lurkers to take the next step and post any information or comments about the role or function of clinical supervision or items of interest to healthcare educators. There are a number of   general academic or guides for nurses or you can access to assist you in being part of the conversation.

I encourage you to search for your areas of interest and develop your own curated information service about your interest in health education or healthcare. You can then send or tweet this information of interest to others who may benefit from your sharing. You can ask questions about any clinical supervision queries you may have from other members of the @PEPCommunity & #PEPCommunity network too. Remeber to ensure you are aware of your organisation and professional social media guidelines. May 2015 facilitate connection between clinical supervisors and add to the conversation!

If you have any comments or suggestions for this blog or @PEPCommunity you are welcome to post them here.
