While there might still be very visible signs of work on the outside, inside the Hobart Apartments it’s a different story.
All student apartments are complete. The Hobart Apartments received their first intake of residents in time for Semester 1 this year, with 358 apartments completed and tenanted in time for the start of the academic year. Work continued throughout first semester to deliver the remaining 72 apartments, which were handed over to the University on 28 April.
Practical completion of the 12 University apartments on Levels 13 and 14 of the building is anticipated for early June. Unlike the 430 student apartments delivered under the Commonwealth National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS), these apartments consist of a mix of two and three bedroom configurations and are not subject to the same eligibility criteria. They will be made available to meet demand for short-term accommodation such as for visiting academics.
Work is still progressing on the exterior landscaping, facade and public areas for the development, including the Student Centre, public cafe, Coop Bookshop and three levels of car parking. The public areas are on target for completion by mid-July 2017.
The development will also be home to the Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment, which is currently under construction.
