He’s been the captain of Sri Lanka’s national cricket team, holds numerous world batting records and is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest cricketers. To those who follow cricket, the legend that is Kumar Sangakkara is well known.

But this month, a not so well known side of this cricket great has started emerging.

For the past three weeks, some lucky future University of Tasmania (UTAS)  students in Sri Lanka have opened their inboxes to discover a weekly video installment featuring UTAS Ambassador, Kumar Sangakkara delivering a new and quirky fact about Tasmania.

The short videos are part of a new series of short videos which Kumar shot while in Tasmania playing for the Hobart Hurricanes.

And now you too can enjoy seeing this crazy new side of Kumar on Youtube!

Kumar's Quirky Facts About Tassie

Find out what local animal can gnaw through metal bars, watch Kumar’s face when he tries Australia’s best (or worst) food, and decide for yourself whether Kumar is smelling or kissing that lavender bear.

In addition to the fun videos, Kumar has also been hard at work  filming a heart-felt postcard to the world on why he chose to come to Hobart over the rest of the world. The video has already received more than 140,000 views on Facebook and been shared over 6,000 times. Filmed during one of his few breaks, the film crew were lucky to catch him in one of Hobart’s great little cafes not far from the waterfront, one of the many things which Kumar mentions in the video that attracts him and his family to Tasmania along with the welcoming community and excellent education.

As a token of his belief in UTAS as an excellent place to receive a great education and benefit from a good lifestyle at the same time, Kumar has also launched the new scholarship for Sri Lankan students starting study in 2016. Make sure to check out whether you’re eligible!
