Imelda, our selfless selfie competition winner! University of Tasmania March 15, 2017 Featured, UTAS Orientation Week is done and dusted, and the entries for our Orientation Selfie Competition are in. You posted some incredible photos of you all getting social on our various social media channels but, of course, there can only be one winner. We are happy to announce our very deserving winner, Imelda Chandra, a second year Bachelor of Business student from Indonesia who is specialising in accounting. Imelda has won a fantastic UTAS survival pack. It includes an Apple ipod Touch, Marley headphones, University of Tasmania hoodie, Nike sports bag, 1TB external hard drive, woolly blanket, UTAS t-shirt and a ‘keep cup’. With temperatures constantly around 30C all week in Hobart, it’s unlikely that Imelda will be using the snuggly blanket or hoodie anytime soon. But she’s undeterred: “Hopefully, I will need the hoodie and blanket soon because it’s has been too warm!” she quipped after picking up her prize. Imelda, who shared the frame with good friend Dona Leach, won the competition after receiving the most likes for her Instagram shot. And it’s no wonder – the two look so happy catching up on their first day back at uni. Imelda and Dona know a thing or two about getting social and connecting with others at UTAS. They’re volunteer student engagement leaders with UTASLife, which runs social and networking activities on campus. In fact, Dona is the Student Engagement Leader Coordinator for UTASLife Hobart. The two friends are heavily involved in social life on campus – whether it’s participating or helping to run it. As a result, their lives are busy but fun. “[With Dona and the other student engagement leaders], I like making UTAS students’ lives more fun by providing a lot of exciting and fantastic activities. For example, the weekly refreshment session every Tuesday where we provide free food and drinks. We also run things like off-campus trips, Cooking on Campus, Human Library and the volunteering opportunity for students to meet more new people and start building their networking.” With a list like this on their social calendar, it’s amazing the girls had time to stop to take their selfie during Orientation Week! Congratulations once more on your win, Imelda. And for those of you interested in getting out and socialising more, check out UTASLife in Hobart and Launceston. Imelda after receiving her prize.
