Jayde Roberts, Lecturer in Asian Languages and Studies, has been selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for Burma/Myanmar for 2016 to 2017. She will be in Yangon/Rangoon from November 2016 to September 2017. During this period, she will investigate local conceptions of urbanism and work with university students and urban planning officials to undertake Participatory Action Research. This research is the first phase of a larger project that interrogates development in a so-called developing country. The final product will be a monograph tentatively titled Narratives of Development in Yangon: Reconciling Modernity with Locality.
