Supporting health students in the workplace

The Tasmanian clinical Education Network has recently launched a website with a number of useful researches for clinical supervisors, facilitators or preceptors of students.  On the supporting health students in the workplace web page there are five areas within the website that include information and media clips about learning and teaching, culture and learning, feedback, the clinical reasoning cycle and there is an elearning package about clinical supervision.

Each of these topics has information and media clip excerpts from workshops delivering this content to health professionals associated with supervising University of Tasmania students.

The learning and teaching resources in the elearning package are divided in to  5 modules, covering topics such as effective communication, adult learning principles, assessment, constructive feedback and creating positive learning environments. In the summary section of the package there are weblinks to Health Workforce Australia and the University of Tasmania professional experience placement web pages.

If you are new to facilitating students, are interested in upskilling in a supervision topic or would like to refresh yourself about the elements of clinical supervision, TCEN website hosts  information that you could find useful. You could also keep informed by visiting this blog and joining @PEPCommunity and receive regular information about clinical supervision.

Another initiative host by the TCEN is the virtual tours of 10 of the rural and remote teaching sites around Tasmania. The tours provide visitors with an overview  and orientates the user to the facility. The site was developed primarily for students. Each tour provides a map, images of the facility, floor plan and media clips from the staff that work there. Talk a look and find out the scope of where UTAS Faculty of Health students can expect to go on professional experience placement within Tasmania.
