NEW COLOMBO PLAN 2017 – A Window Into Korea


FIRST ROUND APPLICATIONS CLOSE WEDNESDAY, 31 AUGUST 2016

The Department of Global Business at Kangwon National University (KNU) is seeking exchange students for the New Colombo Plan (NCP) program.

The NCP program aims to:

  • lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by increasing the number of Australian undergraduate students undertaking study and Internships in the region
  • deepen Australia’s people-to-people and institutional relationships with the region, through the engagement of students, universities, businesses and other stakeholder networks in the Program
  • establish study in the Indo-Pacific as a rite of passage for Australian undergraduate
  • students, and an endeavour that is highly    valued by the Australian community, and
  • increase the number of work-ready Australian graduates with regional experience.

PROGRAM

There are two grants for this NCP program.

  1. Semester Grant
    • For study of one Semester Period in duration (Notice: A Semester Period means a period of study as defined by the Host institution -e.g. may be called a semester or a trimester)
    • Provided at a rate of $5,000 per Student
    • Attract course credit or fulfil mandatory course requirements
  1. Internship Grant
    • Must be part of a semester study Mobility Project to receive this grant
    • Provided at a rate of $1,000 per Student (additional to a semester grant)
    • The additional Internship component may be (but does not have to be) for additional credit or a mandatory component of the Student’s course
    • Only available for Internships that are undertaken as part of, or in addition to, a semester study program

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT

  1. Scholarships are only open to Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  2. An Australian citizen. Students with dual citizenship or permanent residency or similar in another location/country are eligible, however they must undertake their study in a third Host Location, of which they do not have citizenship or residency rights
  3. Enrolled in an on-shore campus of an Australian University at the time of application and throughout their study
  4. Undertaking a Bachelor Degree or Bachelor Honours Degree at the commencement of the Mobility Project
  5. At least 90 per cent of the Students participating in any given Mobility Project must be aged 18 to 28 inclusive at the commencement of the Mobility Project
  6. Additionally, the Applicant’s proposed Mobility Project must:
    • Commence in accordance with the guided timeline
    • Students who have already commenced a mobility project overseas are not eligible to receive a New Colombo Plan grant to continue that project

PARTNERS

As a major national university in Korea, KNU (Host University) participates in a variety of activities with the local community in order to foster cooperation with citizens as well as to welcome foreign visitors and students to share in festivities (music, art, theatre and local foods) organized in the city of Chuncheon.

One proposed internship program is with a well-known software company called DuZon. It specializes in integrated software applications that are used to collect, store, manage, and interpret data from a number of business activities as well as specializing in accounting management systems.
