New process for Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor and New Quiz Evaluation Experience
New Process for using Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor in MyLO Units
With changes to our Respondus license it has been necessary to change how Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor is accessed within our MyLO units.
Previously every unit in MyLO was able to use Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor within quizes. From 1 January 2025 this is no longer the case, and the integration will need to be manually added to units.
To support the new process, Unit Coordinators will be able to request access to Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor in their unit via a new Help Hub form. The form will workflow to the selected Digital Futures team for review prior to the tool being made available in the MyLO unit.
Once the tool has been added the steps to link it to a quiz within the unit remain unchanged. The MyLO Staff Guides have been updated to note the new step to first request access to the tool. An additional guide has been added detailing best practice recommendations that should be implemented when using Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor.
A reminder that use of Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor should only be considered in circumstances where it is:
- deemed necessary as the only viable means to ensure the attainment of the units intended learning outcomes, or
- required by a professional accrediting body
Online inivigilated exams using Respondus LockDown Broswer and Monitor should be scheduled through the Examinations Team
Note that this does not affect the use of Respondus 4 which is a separate application used for creating and managing quizzes that can be printed or published directly to MyLO
New Quiz Evaluation Experience
D2L recently launched a new quiz evaluation experience, which aligns with the same evaluation experience currently in place for assignments and discussions.
We have now switched this on in MyLO effective from 1 January 2025. It is currently released as opt in, meaning you can choose to continue using the classic experience, or select to use the new experience but revert to the old experience if required. We believe this will become the default experience for quiz evaluation later in 2025.
The new quiz evaluation experience does not support matching, arithmetic, significant figures, multi short answer or ordering question types. When marking these question types you will be directed to switch back to the classic experience to continue evaluating.
You will see the option to use the new experience when manually grading a student’s quiz attempt.
A new staff guide has been created which provides more information regarding the new quiz evaluation experience
