Venue: IMAS Sandy Bay seminar room

Abstract:
Ingrid van Putten will present preliminary data on the  ‘change’ observed by individuals working in the marine- and linked economic sectors in St Helens, Tasmania. The change includes climate induced change in the marine environment, but also includes other changes, for instance,  social, economic, and governance change. Climate induced change is thus put in the context of other observed changes and the relative contribution of these different changes to marine sectoral behaviour and decision making is assessed. Preliminary indications are there are significant differences between marine sectors (aquaculture, commercial fishing recreational fishing, charter fishing and dive charter) in the types of climate driven changes that were observed. Moreover, the relative contribution of climate induced marine changes in driving fishing activity varies significantly between the sectors.
