Navigating around the SNM digital resources for professional experience placement information

The professional experience placement (PEP) website contains information that may answer queries you or your students may have regarding PEP. Please familiarize yourselves with its content as it will assist you with providing direction to students who ask.  It is important that the SNM provide consistent information to students and this website is updated to reflect any changes that occur within the PEP environment. Please direct students to this site or alternatively it can be accessed from within MyLO.  The PEP site is an all year unit on the list.  The PEP website link can be found on the left hand menu of the main SNM webpage.

The PEP website provides information for undergraduate students on each campus, postgraduate students and clinical facilitators. It also provides information about regulatory compliance and other useful links. If you require information about undergraduate students, there is a need to click on the weblink for the appropriate campus. Staff and students within the undergraduate program may find it useful to familiarize themselves with the documentation and information provided. New students are required to complete a number of documents prior to undertaking PEP. Continuing students need to provide updated information each year.

The webpage provides an information booklet that each student needs to read as it contains information about AHPRA regulatory requirements, National Police Checks, immunization, occupational health and safety and expectations of the University while students are undertaking placement. There is also a PEP checklist that provides a summary of the forms required by students. Please direct your students here if they ask about forms.  If you peruse this webpage you will notice there are also video guides designed to complement the forms that can be used to assist students to comprehend the documentation they are expected to provide. There is an other useful links heading where students can find information about transport and accommodation if they are allocated outside an urban or regional area for PEP.

Much of this information is mirrored in the PEP MyLO site that is available to students who are enrolled with UTAS. This site also has a link to each BN unit where students can access their placement allocation. The MyLO site also hosts a link to the student placement management system SPMS where students can access their own placement requests and information about past placements.

There is a Community of Practice of professional experience facilitators, clinical educators and preceptors that use this blog for providing them with information, use it to share information or add comments about information. Currently much of the information is emailed to Carey.Mather@utas.edu.au who posts it, however contributions can be made via the comment box below this posting. Professional experience facilitators, clinical educators and preceptors are welcome to join the community of practice that also uses  Twitter.com to receive information about clinical education or university information. There are previous posts about the @PEPCommunity and #PEPCommunity. If you decide to join this CoP there is also a voluntary questionnaire that the PEP team would appreciate if you could complete.  The link is at the top of this webpage. Please join us in this opportunity to share contemporary nursing information about clinical education and facilitation.
