The student feedback record is a resource to facilitate learning and teaching during professional experience placement

TheĀ  Student PEP Weekly Feedback Record is a tool that can be used to guide supervisors of students and students while undertaking professional experience placement (PEP). It has been developed to provide a framework for both clinical supervisors and students to discuss, understand and document their expectations of satisfactory progress within the practice setting.

The templateĀ  enables the student to critically reflect on their own progress, achievements and goals or areas they would like or need development. The preceptor also has the opportunity to evaluate the performance of the student and identify and document areas for development.

If necessary a clinical facilitator or unit coordinator can also be involved to ensure appropriate strategies are discussed and documented. This process assures that all parties are aware of the plan to facilitate the student’s progress in the professional experience or work integrated learning environment. There is also a strategy form that can be used to document specific goals, actions or resources required within a defined time frame to facilitate satisfactory progression during the PEP experience.

This feedback form can be used on conjunction with the Facilitator and Preceptor Decision Tree to Identify and Support Students at Risk on PEP. This diagram provides a colour coded flow chart showing action required and responsibility at each stage of any concern about student progression. The weekly feedback form can be used to identify, discuss and document any concerns. If progress remains unsatisfactory, discussions may need to include the a clinical facilitator or the unit coordinator.

Have you used the student feedback record or the decision tree flow chart? Do you have any comments or tips for others about how you used them? You can record your comments or suggestions here or send them to Carey Mather and I can post them for you.
