Cascading Conversation about the 2019 College Plan

Dear Colleagues

Over the past few months, the University Executive Team (UET) has been involved in discussions about the future of the institution, our purpose, structures and the way we work together. Some of you may have participated in these discussions via the University Strategic Forum or the University Leaders’ Network. Everyone has had the opportunity to contribute to these discussions through various “Cascading Conversations”.

In July this year, UET reviewed the Annual Plans of each of the Colleges and Divisions. The full 2019 College of Health and Medicine Plan is now available to all staff via the intranet.

The planning process itself is evolving, as the shape of the institution and the way we work together evolves. It is intended to have longer, five-year planning horizons in future, to enable more strategic focus. The Cascading Conversations have helped set our future direction and allowed all staff to engage and provide their perspectives. This is helping to formulate the University’s overarching strategy and goals, which then inform the College-level plans. Reflecting the functional model discussed in previous conversations, the College Plan should be informed by strategic plans for our Schools/Centre/Institution and these in turn will be shaped by five year strategic planning at the Discipline level. The ambition is for this model to be in place for the June 2019 planning cycle.

To begin this more engaged, deeper and more connected planning process, the College Leadership Team invites everyone to participate in Cascading Conversations about the 2019 College Plan. Each session will be introduced by a member of the College Leadership Team; but rather than a static presentation of the plan, these events will allow people to participate – in a similar way to previous Cascading Conversations – by considering some guiding questions to prompt dialogue about the College Plan.

Sessions will last approximately 90 minutes and refreshments will be provided. Please come along to any of these events and get involved.
